This website is dedicated to bringing a free,
non-promotional, editorially independent e-mail newsletter to a
global audience about developments and news in diabetes, and is
primarily aimed at health professionals.
Editorial Team
Professor
Steve Bain is an academic clinician based at the University of Swansea in Wales. He leads
a diabetes research team within the Institute of Life Sciences and has clinical sessions (diabetes & general medicine) in the recently created ABM University NHS Trust. As well as being Research and Development Director for the Trust he hosts an
MSc Module in Diabetes for the Primary Care team. Steve’s research
interests include the genetics of diabetes, in particular diabetic
renal disease. As a member of the UK Human Genetics Commission this expertise is well utilised; he leads the Commissions’ input to the National
DNA Database Strategy Board. Steve & Beth live on the Gower with their three children, four cats, six hens and currently;
the builders.
Dr
Harry Brown is a general practitioner (GP) and GP trainer based in Leeds, UK, and has a
major interest in medical education. He also writes the Netlines
column in the British Medical Journal, is medical editor of the
journal, Geriatric Medicine and editor in chief of the medical
portal www.univadis.co.uk
He also contributes to other professional publications
and has written widely on health informatics and has an interest
in the Internet and its use in medicine. He also writes medical
articles for consumer publications, is married with three children
and is a big football fan.
Dr
Mark Freeman is a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals and is also Lead Clinician for Diabetes at Kirklees Primary care Trust in West Yorkshire. He has research interests involving the genetics of insulin
resistance. Clinical interests include diabetes in pregnancy
and diabetic renal disease, along with medical education.
He has written many articles for the medical press.
He is married with two children, is an avid football fan, and,
with effort, plays tennis and squash.
Jim
Young works full-time in molecular biology research at the Institute of Life Science which is part of the Medical School at the University of Wales, Swansea, UK. Jim is also a freelance medical writer
and has a regular monthly column in The Southern Medical Journal, USA. He is the curator of a bibliography for the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy (ISSDP) and another for the Drug Policy Modelling Program (DPMP) at the University of New South Wales, Australia.
Jim is the content editor for Daily
Dose which is a leading drug and alcohol news portal that is published daily and
is based in the UK. Jim is also a trained nurse. Such recreational
time that he has is taken up by swimming in the sea, summer and
winter! And updating his photo-blog of Swansea and Gower. Jim is married with two grown-up sons.
Susan
Young carries out editorial research for Glycosmedia. She was previously
employed as a nurse in the Oncology Department at Singleton Hospital, ABM University NHS Trust.
Sue is also assistant content editor for Daily
Dose a leading drug and alcohol news portal that is published daily
and is based in the UK.
