primarily aimed at health professionals. Glycosmedia is an Affiliate

Editorial Team
Professor
Steve Bain is an academic clinician based at the University of Swansea in Wales. He leads
a diabetes research team within the Institute of Life Sciences and has clinical sessions (diabetes & general medicine) in the recently created ABM University NHS Trust. As well as being Research and Development Director for the Trust he hosts an
MSc Module in Diabetes for the Primary Care team. Steve’s research
interests include the genetics of diabetes, in particular diabetic
renal disease. As a former member of the UK Human Genetics Commission this expertise is well utilised; he leads the Commissions’ report on
the National DNA Database Strategy Board and sits on NDNAD ethics
group. Steve & Beth live on Gower with their three children, four cats, three hens and
still 12 months on; the builders.
Dr
Harry Brown is a general practitioner (GP) and GP trainer based in Leeds, UK, and has a
major interest in medical education. He used to write the Netlines
Blog in the British Medical Journal website, is medical editor
of the journal, Geriatric Medicine and editor in chief of a large
medical portal.
He also contributes to other professional publications
and has written widely on health informatics and has an interest
in the Internet and its use in medicine. He also writes medical
articles for consumer publications, is married with three children
and is a big football fan.
Dr
Mark Freeman is a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals and is also Lead Clinician for Diabetes at Kirklees Primary care Trust in West Yorkshire. He has research interests involving the genetics of insulin
resistance. Clinical interests include diabetes in pregnancy
and diabetic renal disease, along with medical education.
He has written many articles for the medical press.
He is married with two children, is an avid football fan, and,
with effort, plays tennis and squash.
Ash Whitney of Wired up Wales is a web developer based in South Wales.
He built the Glycosmedia website and provides
ongoing support in the form of periodic site changes, management
of the e-mail newsletter system, domain names and server hosting,
and general IT advice.
Jim
Young is a medical informatics specialist and freelance medical writer. He is editor-in-chief
of Glycosmedia.

and another for the Drug Policy Modelling Program (DPMP) at the University of New South Wales, Australia.
Jim is editor of DS Daily a drug and alcohol news service run by DrugScope. Jim is also a trained
nurse. Such recreational time that he has is taken up by swimming
in the
sea,
summer and
winter! And updating his photo-blog of Swansea and Gower. Jim is married with two grown-up sons.
Susan
Young carries out editorial research for Glycosmedia. She was previously
employed as a nurse in the Oncology Department at Singleton Hospital, ABM University NHS Trust.
Sue is also assistant content editor for DS Daily a leading drug and alcohol
news portal that is published daily and is based in the UK.
