Clinical diabetes management is difficult, and few people meet all three risk factor control targets. The proportion of people reaching target varied among general practitioners and practices. Several population, general practitioner and practice characteristics only explained a small part of the total variation (Diabetic Medicine)

Common medications used by patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: what are their effects on the lipid profile?
This review focuses on known changes in the routine lipid profile (LDL-C, TGs, and HDL-C) observed with commonly prescribed medications for patients with T2DM, including antihyperglycemic agents, antihypertensive agents, weight loss medications, antibiotics, analgesics, oral contraceptives, and hormone replacement therapies (Cardiovascular Diabetology)
LDL cholesterol is not a good marker of cardiovascular risk in Type 1 diabetes
In this study of people with Type 1 diabetes in clinical practice, LDL–C was not a good predictor of CVD. We found no support for an LDL–C cut-off point < 2.6 mmol/l. TC/HDL–C seems more reliable as a marker for CVD risk when considering primary prevention (Diabetic Medicine)
Association Between Familial Hypercholesterolemia and Prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
In a cross-sectional analysis in the Netherlands, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes among patients with familial hypercholesterolemia was significantly lower than among unaffected relatives, with variability by mutation type. If this finding is confirmed in longitudinal analysis, it would raise the possibility of a causal relationship between LDL receptor-mediated transmembrane cholesterol transport and type 2 diabetes (JAMA)
