The effect of creatinine clearance on the short-term outcome of neuropathic diabetic foot ulcers
Our results suggest that creatinine clearance is an important factor affecting wound healing in patients with neuropathic diabetic foot ulcers. (Primary Care Diabetes)
Renal protection in diabetes: lessons from ONTARGET
Telmisartan provides superior reductions of proteinuria, compared with losartan, and is effective in reducing renal endpoints. Coupled with evidence of cardiovascular protection in ONTARGET®, this reinforces the potential for telmisartan as an alternative to ramipril to reduce the progression of diabetic nephropathy and to reduce cardiovascular risk in a high-risk population – provisional PDF (Cardiovascular Diabetology)
Insulin Signaling to the Glomerular Podocyte Is Critical for Normal Kidney Function
This study shows that insulin rapidly and directly signals to the podocyte in the glomerulus, is able to dynamically remodel the actin cytoskeleton of this cell, and has a critically important role in maintaining the integrity of the GFB. Furthermore, when podocyte insulin signaling is lost, glomerular changes develop that recapitulate a number of features typical of DN (Cell Metabolism)
Pancreatic ß-cell KATP channels: Hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia
This review highlights the important role of the ß-cell KATP channel in glucose physiology and provides an introduction to some of the other review articles in this special edition of the Reviews in Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders – abstract (Reviews in Endocrine & Metabolic Disorders)
One in three patients fail to take insulin as prescribed
More than one in three diabetes patients skip doses or fail to take their insulin as prescribed, stating that they have done so on average three times in the last month, and 77% of physicians estimate that in reality this number could be as high as six doses*, according to the Global Attitudes of Patients and Physicians in Insulin Therapy (GAPPTM) survey, released by (Novo Nordisk)
HbA1c and mean blood glucose show stronger associations with cardiovascular disease risk factors
Mean glycaemia and HbA1c show consistent and stronger associations with CVD risk factors than fasting glucose or postprandial glucose levels or measures of glucose variability in patients with diabetes (Diabetologia)
Frequent Monitoring of A1C During Pregnancy as a Treatment Tool to Guide Therapy
This study documents rapid decline in A1C during pregnancy and the utility of weekly A1C to guide therapy (Diabetes Care)
Bayer Diabetes Care HbA1c Online Survey
We are currently looking to understand how HbA1c testing fits into people’s diabetes management routines, and would like you to answer this short survey about HbA1c testing (Bayer Diabetes Care)

Durability of Effects of Exenatide Treatment on Glycemic Control, Body Weight, Systolic Blood Pressure, Crp and Triglyceride Concentration
Exenatide treatment has durable and persistent beneficial effects on HbA1C, weight, CRP, SBP and triglyceride concentrations. Cessation of treatment reverses all these beneficial effects within 6 months. There was no evidence of loss of its effects while exenatide treatment was continued (Endocrine Practice)
Insulin Resistance Linked to Poor Hepatitis C Treatment Response in HIV/HCV Coinfected Patients
These findings led the investigators to conclude, “A linear relationship was detected between HOMA-IR and hepatitis C viral load in HIV/HCV coinfected [patients] regardless viral genotype.” (Hepatitis C Trust)
Genetic predisposition to long-term non-diabetic deteriorations in glucose homeostasis: ten-year follow-up of the GLACIER Study
Our findings imply that genetic profiling might facilitate the early detection of persons who are genetically susceptible to deteriorating glucose control; studies of incident type 2 diabetes and discrete cardiovascular endpoints will help establish whether the magnitude of these changes is clinically relevant (Diabetes)
