Correlation between the accumulation of skin glycosylation end products and the development of type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy

April 21st 2022

The cumulative amount of skin AGEs can be used as the diagnostic index and the prediction and evaluation index of DPN severity. Moreover, the diabetic peripheral neuropathy risk score can predict the risk of DPN in patients with T2DM (BMC Endocrine Disorders)

Blood pressure levels and cardiovascular risk according to age in patients with diabetes mellitus: a nationwide population-based cohort study

October 21st 2020

In a cohort of hypertensive patients who had DM but no history of cardiovascular disease, lower BP was associated with lower risk of cardiovascular events especially at the age of < 70. However, low BP < 130–139/80–89 mmHg was not associated with decreased cardiovascular risk, it may be better to keep the BP of 130–139/80–89 mmHg at the age of ≥ 70 (Cardiovascular Diabetology)

The ratio of AGE to sRAGE independently associated with albuminuria in hypertensive patients

November 14th 2018

This study suggests that the ratio of AGE to sRAGE may be a surrogate biomarker for microvascular injury (BMC Endocrine Disorders)

Sex- and age-related differences of metabolic parameters in impaired glucose metabolism and type 2 diabetes compared to normal glucose tolerance

October 2nd 2018

IGM did not reveal relevant changes of insulin resistance with age, but early phase insulin release deteriorated, with higher change in women. T2DM men featured age-related deterioration of glucose metabolism. In women, sex advantage seen in NGT vanished in T2DM, since glucose metabolism was overall not different than in men, both young and elderly (Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice)

Age differences in diabetes-related complications and glycemic control

May 4th 2017

Although the prevalence of complications was higher among the older diabetic patients, they had a better glycemic control. The influential factors were variably associated with the two diabetes-related outcomes; therefore, a more comprehensive risk profiles assessment is needed for glycemic control (BMC Endocrine Disorders)

Advanced glycation end products, measured in skin, vs. HbA1c in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus

September 9th 2015

In children with type 1 diabetes, sAF values correlate strongly with single HbA1c and mean HbA1c, making the non-invasive sAF measurement an interesting alternative to provide information about cumulative hyperglycemic states (Pediatric Diabetes)

Crosstalk between advanced glycation end products (AGEs)-receptor RAGE axis and dipeptidyl peptidase-4-incretin system in diabetic vascular complications

February 11th 2015

This article summarizes the crosstalk between AGEs-RAGE axis and DPP-4-incretin system in the development and progression of diabetes-associated disorders and its therapeutic intervention, especially focusing on diabetic vascular complications (Cardiovascular Diabetology)
